I had been waiting for this exhibit for four months... Yves Saint Laurent's best creations together in a phenomenal exhibition in Madrid. The perfect plan! And the best thing is that we will be able to visit it from tomorrow (October 6th) to January 8th (2012). The place: Fundacion Mapfre.
I had the pleasure of being invited to visit it yesterday, and see the whole installations. The place is amazing and all the dresses and outfits are impeccably organized. Designing a costume exhibition is one of the most difficult things! There are dresses from every year, and you could see how Yves evolved and admire his greatness. You realize that all the collections we see today are just revivals of what he did. Variations of a theme.
My favourite dress was there (can you guess which one it is? It's not in the pictures), as well as the classics: the Mondrian dress, the black dress with the pink bow on the back... And also unknown pieces. Everything is crowned by portraits of Yves, images of his muses, and the famous photos for Pour Homme by Jean Loup Sieff.
I really recommend it. You'll enjoy Yves's creativity, and you'll learn a lot about him. By the way, did you know that he "discovered" the colour when he first travelled to Morocco with Pierre Bergé? Even though he didn't like travelling, he could add so many foreign references to his collections. A true genius.
Here you have my favourite shots. Which is yours?
