I have always loved webzines. The first one that I ever read was Jamie's, then Milkshake Chocolate, then I don't know how but I got a free digital subscription to Nylon and finally DirrtyGlam. I fell in love with the last one, because it was very young and fresh, a mix between the spanish Vanidad and Nylon.

It was a big surprise and I was honored when Alie from DirrtyGlam asked me to write an article about James Francis Millar, a young great designer, for their webzine. It was some months ago, an today I checked their webpage to see if the April issue was out... and there it was my article!
I was so excited that I only read my article and I haven't read carefully all the pages, although they look promising!

James Francis Millar

This young designer from Glasgow shows that age is not important to be a good fashion artist. His designs are different, original and unique, and although we can be sure that he was born with the talent to make art pieces with just a bit of fabric, he developed his skills at the Central Saint Martins (like Christopher Kane, an outstanding young designer) after studying at the Glasgow School of Art. His beautiful drawings and designs for Nicola de Main, the artworks for the Crystal Ball adverts and the appearances in Dazed & Confused, Qvest and British Vogue show that he is not just another designer who wants his clothes worn by celebrities on the red carpet, he loves his work and you can see it in the clothes: they scream peace, fun and cheerfulness.

If you take a look at the lookbook, the view of two models wearing colourful clothes and giant sunglasses will strike you. Fashion is a way of life.
You will find yourself wearing shining paillettes on your shoulders, transparent plastic raincoats (even if it isn’t raining, it’s always a good time to wear a raincoat, as if it were an accessory!), trousers with one leg of one colour and other leg of another, never-ending scarves, printed tights and see-trough shirts.
James Francis Millar doesn’t make things easier for him and he uses a wide variety of materials, perfectly sewn and matched, from plastic to wool, silk… who said clothes are just made of cotton?. The cool collection is the result of these common materials yet unseen in fashion.

The fall winter collection will be adored by the new rave kids, that is, the it-generation educated by Myspace, BoomBox, The Cobra Snake and Amy Winehouse, living their lives in an eternal party and enjoying their own 15 minutes of fame. They will love the bright colours and the young and fresh look created by James.

So if your closet is full of original materials and shapes, you don’t avoid looking different but stylish and the wayfarers are your fashion sin, don’t forget to think of James and his clothes when you do the winter shopping.
