How can you mend a broken heart, by Manuel Bolaño

Just like I look forward to the new Woody Allen film every year (the one he’s filming now looks so good: Jesse Eisenberg, Ellen Page, Alec Baldwin…), I look forward to Manuel Bolaño’s show every season. You never know how he’s going to surprise you, he's got a very personal style, but it's so subtle that all his collections are unique and original. Giant bear heads, Star Wars inspired outfits, or a goth gone hunting have been his latest icons.

On 080 Barcelona Fashion he presented a really moving collection for Spring/Summer 2012, titled "How can you mend a broken heart". The pain of being in love, how it's so beautiful and tragic at the same time. Roses embroidered to the jackets, and tearful make-up. Every detail is studied: futuristic sunglasses that take us to the sixties, canotiers... It has so many references and reminiscences that it gives you a thousand options to interpret the collection.

Igual que espero la nueva película de Woody Allen cada año (la que está rodando ahora tiene una pinta increíble: Jesse Eisenberg, Ellen Page, Alec Baldwin...), cada temporada el desfile de Manuel Bolaño es de los que más expectación me causa. Nunca sabes con qué te va a sorprender, tiene un estilo muy personal, pero es tan sutil que todas sus colecciones son únicas y originales. Domina todo. Cabezas gigantes de oso, conjuntos inspirados en Star Wars, o un gótico en un día de caza han sido sus últimos iconos.

En la última edición de 080 Barcelona Fashion presentó una colección conmovedora para Primavera/Verano 2012, titulada "Cómo reparar un corazón roto", el dolor de estar enamorado, cómo es tan bello y trágico a la vez. Rosas en las chaquetas, y maquillaje con lágrimas negras e infinitas. Detalles aprovechados al máximo, estampados circenses, gafas futuristas que recuerdan a los sesenta, canotiers... Tiene tantas referencias y reminiscencias que te da mil opciones para interpretar la colección.

Treasure hunting on eBay

I have always loved eBay. When I don't find something, the solution is looking on eBay. It's dangerous for me, as I always obsess over caprices and I can't stop until I've found them. I don't usually buy it, but it's good knowing where they are in case I want them. Nevertheless, since I joined eBay a month ago (I used to share an account with a friend), I've bought some items that had been on my wishlist for ages. Little treasures. Like, for example, the "You stop you die" Swatch, a limited edition watch designed by Iván Navarro. Melania Pan, Harper's Bazaar editor in chief, wore it at the H&M and Harper's Bazaar event and I was looking for it since then. I finally found it on eBay slightly cheaper, for $99, and in new condition. Another whim is the vintage magazines. Vogues from the 20s, those issues with the iconic covers we see everywhere... It's hard to resist.

I still have some pending items, such as the japanese stuffed owl from "Lost in Translation", or a pair of Tru Blood bottles (from the True Blood tv series, it's just fruits juice). The shipping costs are exorbitant, as they are glass bottles. Also, I recommend you look on Google before buying something on eBay, as you could find it cheaper.

The truth is that I have never had problems with shippings or that an article wasn't in the right conditions. Well, I always buy through the "Buy it now" option, as I think it's cheaper. The only time I've bidden for something was the white dress by Kate Moss for Topshop. I was at the computer the last half an hour, but on the last second someone increased the bid for one dollar and got it. It seems that there are certain softwares you install on your computer and they automatically bid. I still prefer the traditional method, it's actually fun.

If you don't trust the products sold on eBay, they just launched the "Fashion Outlet" in England and Germany, in which the brands sell their products without intermediaries, and at really low prices. You have Adidas, Karen Millen, House of Frasier, Kookai, G-Star, Fred Perry, Nike, Timberland, and many others. Some of them ship worlwide, so you can shop on the "Fashion Outlet" wherever you live. This selection of Kookai dresses for 14 pounds is awesome.

Susie Bubble published a fantastic tutorial about how to buy on eBay. She finds authentic gems. I haven't tried selling something, but I saw that the September 2007 Issue of Vogue (the one of "The September Issue" documentary, with Sienna Miller on the cover) is selling for $475, and I own one. If I ever need the money, I know what I can do...

Siempre me ha gustado eBay. Cuando no encuentro algo, la solución es buscar en eBay. Para mí es un peligro, me suelo encaprichar de las cosas más aleatorias y no paro hasta dar con ellas. Luego casi nunca me lo llego a comprar, pero tranquiliza saber que están ahí esperándome. Sin embargo, desde que hace un mes me registré en eBay (antes compraba a través de la cuenta que compartía con una amiga), me he comprado varias cosillas que llevaban mucho tiempo en mi wishlist. Pequeños tesoros. Por ejemplo, el reloj Swatch "You stop you die" de edición limitada diseñado por Iván Navarro. Melania Pan lo llevaba en el evento de H&M y Harper's Bazaar y desde entonces lo buscaba por todas partes. Al final, en eBay lo encontré un poco más barato que en la tienda, por 99$, y nuevo. Otra joya son las revistas vintage. Vogues de los años 20, números de las portadas icónicas que vemos continuamente... Es difícil resistirse

Aún tengo varias cosas pendientes, como el búho de peluche de Lost in Translation, o un par de botellas de Tru Blood (de la serie True Blood, que en realidad es zumo de frutas). Los gastos de envío de las botellas son exorbitados al ser de cristal. Para artículos muy concretos es recomendable buscar en Google, porque a veces puedes encontrarlo más barato en otro sitio.

Lo cierto es que nunca he tenido problemas con los envíos ni con que un artículo estuviera defectuoso. Eso sí, casi siempre compro las cosas a través de la opción "Buy it now", creo que al final es más barato. La única vez que he pujado fue con el vestido blanco de Kate Moss para Topshop. Estuve la última media hora delante del ordenador vigilando que nadie sobrepujara, pero en el último segundo (no exagero), alguien aumentó un dólar y se lo llevó. Parece ser que hay programas que los instalas en el ordenador y pujan automáticamente. Yo de momento a lo tradicional, en el fondo es divertido.

Si no os inspira demasiada confianza el estado de los artículos en eBay, hace poco inauguraron el "Fashion Outlet", en Inglaterra y Alemania, con productos nuevos directamente vendidos por la propia marca, sin intermediarios, y con un precio muy bajo. Tenéis Adidas, Karen Millen, House of Frasier, Kookai, G-Star, Fred Perry, Nike, Timberland, y muchas otras. Algunas de ellas hacen envíos a cualquier parte del mundo, así que podéis comprar aunque no viváis en Inglaterra o Alemania. Esta selección de vestidos Kookai por 14 libras está genial.

No he probado a vender algo, pero ayer vi que el número de septiembre 2007 de Vogue US (el del documental, con Sienna Miller en la portada), está a 475$... Una locura. Si algún día necesito el dinero, ya sé qué hacer...

0fr, the bookstore in Paris: a fashion lover's paradise

On my last trip to Paris I discovered some new places that have already become my favourite stores in town. In spite of having a map of the city with all the recommendations that people had told me, and the findings from previous visits, the best places are always found by accident. We were heading to the hotel after having a drink at a café, when we came across this bookstore, called 0fr, in 20 rue Dupetit-Thouars (Carreau du Temple).

As soon as you entered the shop you could feel the exquisite selection of fashion and art books and magazines they had, as well as the classic articles you see on the blogs and finally get to see them in "real life", like these wooden sunglasses. They had some treasures, such as several issues of Egoïste, the cult magazine by Nicole Wisniak (the first issue was sold in 1977) that comes out every few years. The ads on that magazine are made specially for each issue. Some issues were around €300! I also saw the Foam issue by Inez & Vinoodh (I should have bought it!!).

0fr has edited several publications, I bought a very chic guide of Paris. There are lots of addresses yet to visit...!

En mi última visita a París descubrí varios sitios que ya se han convertido en mis tiendas favoritas de la ciudad. A pesar de que iba con un mapa con las recomendaciones que me habían hecho y los descubrimientos de otros años, los mejores lugares se encuentran por sorpresa, cuando te metes por una callecita a curiosear. En el caso de esta librería, llamada 0fr, en el 20 de rue Dupetit-Thouars (Carreau du Temple), nos topamos con ella al volver al hotel después de tomar algo en una cafetería.

Al entrar ya se intuía la exquisita selección de libros y revistas de moda y arte que tenían, además de los típicos artículos que llevas viendo en los blogs y por fin ves que son reales, como las gafas de madera. Había auténticos tesoros, como los numerosos ejemplares de Egoïste, la revista de culto publicada por Nicole Wisniak por primera vez en 1977, y que sólo sale cada pocos años. Los anuncios que aparecen en esa rveista están hechos especialmente para cada número. Algunos números valían más de 300€. También vi el magazine de Foam por Inez & Vinoodh (¡debí haber comprado uno!)

0fr ha editado varias publicaciones, yo me compré una guía de París con direcciones chic. Aún me quedan muchas por visitar, ¡hay que ir poco a poco!

At the presentation of the new Elie Saab fragrance we had the opportunity to get to know everything about Elie Saab. I have always been a great fan of his work, but now I love his designs even more. I wrote down some interesting facts about him to post them on the blog.

- He made a dress for her sister when he was 9 years old only.

- He opened his atelier at 18 years old.

- He hasn't studied fashion at any school.

- He's the designer that sells more Haute Couture dresses. Valentino used to be the king until he retired. Now, Valentino sells 222 dresses every year, and Elie Saab more than 1000.

- All of his creations are made by hand, on request.

- Every dress requieres 120 hours of work and the hands of six people.

- He met his wife when she went to his atelier for the fittings of her sister's wedding dress. She was thirteen years old. Saab waited for her to reach the age limit and married her. Now she's part of the Administration.

- The dress that made Elie Saab reach worlwide fame was Halle Berry's, when she received her Oscar for Best Actress in 2002.

- The Elie Saab style has three pillars: gems, drapings and embroidery. The three women he is inspired by: the princess, the bride and the celebrity.

- He has four shops, in London, Paris, Beirut and Dubai.

- The great ambassador of Elie Saab is Queen Rania from Jordan.

En la presentación del nuevo perfume de Elie Saab tuve la oportunidad de conocer todos los detalles acerca de Elie Saab y su trabajo, y apunté varios datos interesantes sobre él para contároslo en el blog. Si ya era una gran fan de sus diseños, ahora que conozco su filosofía lo soy aún más.

- Con 9 años le hizo un vestido a su hermana.

- Abrió su taller a la edad de 18 años.

- No ha estudiado moda en ninguna escuela.

- Es el modisto que más trajes de Alta Costura vende. Hasta su retiro, Valentino era el rey de la Alta Costura. Ahora, Valentino vende 222 trajes al año, y Elie Saab más de 1000.

- Todas sus creaciones son hechas por encargo y a mano.

- Cada vestido tiene 120 horas de trabajo como mínimo y requiere las manos de 6 personas.

- Conoció a su mujer cuando ésta acompañaba a su hermana a hacerse su traje de novia. Entonces ella tenía 13 años. Saab esperó a que alcanzara la mayoría de edad y se casó con ella. Ahora es parte del Consejo de Administración.

- El vestido que lució Halle Berry en 2002 cuando recogió su Oscar a Mejor Actriz fue el que lanzó a Elie Saab a la fama.

- El estilo de Elie Saab se basa en tres pilares: la pedrería, los drapeados y los bordados. Y los vestidos se inspiran en tres mujeres: la celebrity, la princesa y la novia.

- Tiene cuatro tiendas, una en París, otra en Londres, otra en Dubai, y otra en Beirut.

- Su gran embajadora es Rania de Jordania.

A Paris shopping list

On this moment I'll probably be in Le Marais, on Rue de Rosiers, on rue Saint Honoré, or on the Boulevard Beaumarchais... In Paris. For two years I've had the chance to fly to Paris for fashion events (the Lancôme and Vente Privée trips), always on the same week of July, so last year I decided that it had to be a tradition: I have to visit Paris in July, on sales season. That's why I haven't bought anything this season, I've saved money for this occasion. I can't wait to visit the vintage stores, the second hand shops, and also little gems such as COS, Maje, The Kooples, American Vintage... I'll return to the Le Marais vintage stores (a guide here) and I'll tell you all my new finds when I come back!

I know myself, and I know that I will come back to Madrid with clothes of all sorts. But this time I've compiled a list of basics I need. Let's see if I can make it...

En estos momentos probablemente esté en Le Marais, en Rue de Rosiers, en rue Saint Honoré, o en el Boulevard Beaumarchais... En París. Desde hace dos años ha dado la casualidad de que he tenido que viajar a París por eventos relacionados con el blog (Lancôme y Vente Privée), justo por estas fechas, así que el año pasado decidí que había que convertirlo en una tradición. En Julio hay que ir a París, aprovechando la época de rebajas. Es por esto que no me he comprado nada en las rebajas de esta temporada, espero todo el año para volver a París e ir de compras en la capital de la moda, en tiendas vintage, en algunas de segunda mano, y en pequeñas joyas como COS, Maje, The Kooples, American Vintage... Visitaré de nuevo las direcciones de Le Marais (guía aquí), y os contaré los nuevos descubrimientos cuando vuelva.

Me conozco, y sé que volveré a Madrid con prendas de lo más dispares. Pero esta vez he hecho una lista de básicos que necesito. Veamos a la vuelta si lo he cumplido...

The moment I saw the picture of Katie and Suri at the beach I knew I had to make a post about Katie's style. I've always loved how she wears wide trousers and how she looks like she's living in the 1970s.

Her style is casual, effortless, and chic. She usually wears jeans, comfy sweaters, and hats. All of this combined with the most iconic it-bags, mostly Hermès birkins. Even though her style is casual, the outfits are often formal, à la Charlotte York meets a Voguette.
